Durham University Sailing Club
A host of new freshers meant that Durham University Sailing Club was well represented at the Leeds Halloween Howler,coach outlet store, the first team racing event of the year. On the Saturday the winds were quite variable and the flights of Laser2s and Larks were sailed with their sails' reefed. The teams were split into two leagues in such a way that many of the races Durham had to sail were against each other.
Durham1 had an overall successful day with good wins against Birmingham1 and Durham2 and a close race against Dambusters2. Losses were recorded against Dambusters1 and Manchester1, due to the umpire awarding penalty turns.
In an impressive first race against Birmingham1 Durham2 converted a 4,ferragamo outlet,5,karen millen,6 losing position to a solid 1,nike tn,2,true religion factory outlet,6 victory. A good start by the Durham Ladies resulted in a tactical race,cheap michael kors, which Durham2 eventually won.
The ladies team,cheap oakley, sailing together for the first time, showed great enthusiasm and potential and it was unfortunate that they were placed in a league in which they did not get the opportunity to race against other ladies teams.
The plan for Sunday was to sail quarters,coach factory, semis and finals for a silver and gold league based on the previous days results. However, the wind was strong and gusty and eventually the decision not to sail was made after the committee boat capsized. Dambusters1 won the event based on the points from Saturday's races,gucci, of which they had lost none.
As always the social side of the weekend was also enjoyed by all. Friday's 'fruity' night in the union was interrupted by a fire alarm at 1am,mulberry uk, but after a short spell outside in the wind and rain,air max one, the party continued. Altogether Leeds was an enjoyable weekend, which was unfortunately cut short. Both the sailing and the social side allowed team bonding and gaining of good experience for future events.
Close race against Dambusters 2 with a porn star conversion at the leeward mark by me, thrashed the seconds with a not so porn star tipping in by me (appropriate penalties consumed), thrashed Birmingham with 1,mcm bags,2 by nearly a leg. They later tried to have race resailed but were denied by the umpire after he pointed out that capsizing was their problem and that one of the Durham boats lacked a jib sheet yet still managed 4th (good effort Adam and Debs). Defeats Dambusters 1; they had 1,timberland pas cher,2,3 off the line with me making it particularly easy by forgetting to start (again penalties consumed). Manchester had it in the bag then umpire made dodgy decision giving Adam/Debs turns then Steve decided he wanted to go into a flat spin as well. The seconds displayed amazing skill,scarpe hogan, determination this weekend striking fear into the hearts of all fellow sailors, earning respect and a formidable reputation. Captained by the gorgeous Peter Frankl they went from victory to victory (this isn't victory in the usual sense of the word but more of a triumph of character). The weekend had amazing displays of skill in particular from Leo the fresh new recruit who many a time held off the enemy boats allowing victory to be obtained. Unfortunately as with many a well oiled machine there is always a loose cog set to undermine the team. In our case this was the renegade known as 'Timmy'. Time and time again he thwarted our own tactics. Covering his own boats,supra for sale, failing to follow orders and always getting that 6th place. As time, progressed the elements turned against us. We were still determined to carry on but our opposition refused to attempt to pit their wits against us claiming the wind was beyond their capabilities. Durham second team all of the skill none of the pressure.
The general consensus seemed to be that we all sailed well and pulled off some good moves, just not at the same time. Closest race was against Durham2 with a 1,2,louis vuitton,6 off the start. Unfortunately a dodgy reach saw Sos go through to 2nd and Leo try to take a little too much water on the mark. With Jess and Leo both protesting confusion ensued and the umpire claimed not to have heard so did not give turns where they were due (Leo) [to be fair he was in the right ed]. As all this was going on Pete sneaked through to give the seconds the victory. A little more confidence and shouting and the girls will be on top.
Timmy seemed to have a successful weekend,longchamp, finding a leatherman and on the way to Naffees.
Much team bonding went on with a full recital (words and actions) of the Spice Girls "Stop",air max 2013, except of course by Mr Slowe who predictably fell asleep on the dancefloor.
Apparently Newcastle were a bunch of lightweights and left the Polypop well early,ray ban.
Andy Helme's car broke on the way to West Riding on Sunday. Sos promptly blamed this on Timmy,coach outlet store online, not sure if this is entirely true,lulu lemon, but don't know what happened so you never know.
